Dear All,
    As many of you already know from the meeting in Saturnia or from visits in MSD, we have been developing in the last year a Test and Show Room, with the target of being the first stretch film producers in the world to have a facility which allows to test the film in a new way, and to recreate very different usage conditions, in order to simulate the needs of different customers, who use the film for different packaging solutions and on different wrapping machines.

    In the following lines I’ll give you a rough descriptions of our devices and an example of result, which I could obtain through my tests.

    We’ll call from now on our facility “TURBO-RAP”. It’s composed by three main devices, which are described as follows:

1. Wrapping machine ROTOMATIC 1700 Profi

2 motor Pre-Stretch unit to recreate every possible wrapping program running on other wrapping machines
Super high wrapping speed to test the film in the most extreme conditions
Pre-stretch, secondary tension and wrapping speed can also be changed during the wrapping cycle

2. Equipment for dynamic measuring of pallet package rigidity (Crash test)

The equipment allows to accelerate and decelerate a pallet up to 7 m/s2, and to measure the displacement of its top. This situation recreates the braking of a truck from 90 km/h to 0 in 44m. Please notice that we are the only ones in the world who belong such a testing device!!!!

3. Pallet to test the holding force of the film

The equipment allows to measure the holding power by tensometers at one corner. There is also a corner for goods specimen situated on the opposite side.
Measured data are exported to a data base to allow their elaboration.

Example of test results:

As an example we can consider the comparison between two very different kinds of film. The first one is a Trio TEX (Super Power Cast) sold as 17µ. Actually a very good film if we consider the prestretch (it tears only after 300%), but in my opinion the last reason for which a customer should choose a quality and a supplier instead of others is the minimum consumption that assures the safety of the packaging during the transport.
As every Manuli film also our LC3 has a characteristic strong holding power, in many cases 50-100% more than a blown film and in general much higher than any other competitors’ film. So I show how, by means of reducing the number of wrappings around the testing pallet and using a higher thickness, we can obtain a much higher value of the holding force and an even lower value of the consumption.

Of course we have many more testing possibilities, I only need as many samples as possible in order to create an extensive data base and a testing method which should be suitable for every application. This is why I’m introducing officially our TURBO-RAP to the Manuli sales force all over Europe, in order to involve you all in our project and to simplify the exchange of information, so that everyone will be able to make the most of our common know-how.
